Just attended awhile ago, you will learn a lot from this seminar... you will learn about how your xtrail will perform under extreme off road conditions,. you will never imagine that your xtrail can perform under these conditions..Super! Terrific! What can i say more!! Definitely a must for all xtrail lovers !! For those who are thinking of buying a SUV, this is the ONLY ONE in its class!
I would like to thank Mr. Raymond Tribdino of NMPI for spearheading the seminar. Guest Instructor Biboy for teaching us how to drive on on and off road conditions.. _________________

It was a cloudy Saturday afternoon. Mike, Paul, Ed and I arrived at Nissan Motor Phils., Inc. to attend a short seminar about SUV (X-Trail) Safety School. We were met and accommodated immediately by Mr. Raymond, marketing director, Mr. Jojo, showroom manager of NMPI. They were all excited to see Club X. We also had the prestige chance to meet NMPI president Mr. Chen and was delighted for club x to join this event. Nice guy.
About 20 participants attended the safety school that afternoon representing young boys and girls, professionals, media (a young writer from a car magazine) and of course Club X.
At the showroom, we saw the new X-Trail (Tokyo Edition) which was dressed up with 20” wheels designed exclusively for NMPI by Concept One. The new color of the X-trail was also shown (Olive Green) which I must say is beautiful. On the other side was a black X-Trail accessorized with 17” 5 spoke wheels, illuminated door sills, tower type strut bar (with the car brand engraved on it), Heavy duty window wind deflectors and the eye catching fender arches. Oh yes! The car will be out on the market sometime in November this year. Watch out for this.
Shortly after the acquaintances the seminar begun, Mr. Raymond explained the aim of the seminar and re-introduced the X-Trail’s capabilities as a 4x4 extreme vehicle. Engineering wonders like the atessa system and the g-control which we are all not aware our x-trails have these.
Mr. Biboy (sounds like Kevin Bacon) of the off-road school of safety thought the participants how to handle a vehicle under extreme conditions. He also demonstrated how the atessa and g-control system of our x-trails works.
2 demo x-trails were available at that time both 250xs. Mr. Jay and Mr. Mackoy (both professional off-roaders) showed how to deal the x-trails in the tarmac with sand. Doing an 8 at the tarmac course, at 2WD, the x-trails showed under-steering almost hitting the pylons. Next they shifted to all mode 4X4, superb handling by the x-trails making a perfect 8 with precision and without hitting the pylons. I hope Mike captured it on videos.
Club X members were all seated on the front row seats. And you know what this means… we get to try everything first. And then…Live Action!
To make the seminar alive and kicking, Mr. Biboy invited the participants to use their own x-trails at the tarmac and guess who volunteered? Yes club X! I got the 1st run, Paul did 2nd, then Mike 3rd with his roaring 200x and a club x guest named Ed at 4th. Everyone cheered and enjoyed seeing those x-trails in shinny 18s and 20s did it in the tarmac.
After the quick trial run at the tarmac, back to the seminar and this time, how the x-trail handles itself at extreme off road condition. We were thought of how to handle the car, the course and yourself.
There are 2 sections of the off road course. 1st course was called the c-section which was meant for 4x2 X’s. This course includes gravel, steep (45 degree) hill climbing and crossing to a hanging log just enough for the 4 wheels to cross it and down hill, a turning 45 degree hill mud pit which the vehicle will go sideways with driver’s side nearing the mud ground. (This is my favorite; you can see how the 4x4 wheels move in action). The 2nd course is called the “X-Treme” course and meant for 4x4 X's. The course (as shown by Paul’s sneaked preview photo) will make the x-trail climb the hill with one wheel hanging in front and then rear. Then log crossing, uphill and down hill and the finale the man-made river crossing.
The whole off road course are man-made and very muddy. I had a chat with Mr. Biboy and he admitted that he did not expect the x-trail can do this kind of off road capabilities. I asked him if the off road course made by NMPI are somehow like the ones they use in off road competition and he said “Yes, that’s the course”. They helped designed it with NMPI.
The participants had the chance to assess the course by riding (as a passenger) at first. Then it was our turn to take the steering wheel. Paul and I drove at first. I drove the orange and Paul drove the silver. Mike and Ed came next, then the others. On my first run, I made some mistake like the right wheel almost missing the log crossing by an inch.
You should see the face of the target man at the hill top. Sorry NMPI, it’s my first time.
There was a crowd favorite. The driver who took the off road course was a female. She did complete the course. It took her awhile, but did it.
Ok back to the action. During the final run of the remaining participants, I said to Paul I wanted to try my x-trail in that course. He smiled at me somehow worrying about the 18’s.
Oh well, Nike would always say “Just Do It” I then asked Mr. Raymond if I can run my vehicle to the course, without hesitating, announced to NMPI president and to the crowd that a customer would run his own vehicle.
Mr. Raymond as the navigator joined me and took the course. He too was worried about the 18s getting scratched. I said never mind it, it’s off road. If the other 2 x-trails can do it, so is mine. Anyway, its self fulfillment, I just need to know if my x-trail can do the course and it did. Happy!
At the closing of the seminar, all participants were awarded by NMPI president Mr. Chen, Mr. Raymond and Mr. Biboy the “Certified Off-Road Driver”. As a token of their appreciation, we were given a head cap and a T-Shirt (Nissan collection) and exclusively Club X is invited to come again to tour the NMPI car assembly plant and get to have their x-trails checked by NMPI’s certified mechanic. And that’s not all, we were also given a sports Jacket only for Club X. I also got a special token for using my vehicle. I got titanium made key chain with the “Z” embossed on it.
Our heartfelt thanks to the men and women of NMPI, Mr. Chen, president, Mr. Raymond, Mr. Jojo, Ms. Benjie (for her kindness in taking the video of the action), Mr. Biboy (excellent instructor), Messrs Mackoy and Jay (our driving instructor), The media guy (I forgot his name) Mr. Mikko (photo opts guy from the car magazine ata?) everyone else there and Mike Sia for telling me about the event. _________________ http://www.cardomain.com/id/edeleon815 |
