Hi,
just sharing my 3 day experience where one thing literaly lead to another.
Since selling my 97 Trooper just this Tuesday, was on a lookout for my next ride, I trimmed down my options to an e46, an 02 Patrol and a 07 Fortuner. Was talking to one of ABS's sales reps (am from the ad media industry) and he shared that the sales and marketing head was selling her current car because they have a new car plan entitlement, the car being sold was an xtrail. Immediately, I picked up the phone, called her up, and she ended up selling her casa maintained 04 xty for just P400k (lucky lucky buyer). This was the start of my obsession with this car.
I've practically read every forum (including this one) and all my reading got me convinced this is the car I need, without shelling to many extra pesos. Always loved how the Xtrail looked but apparently, my existing circle of friends never had an xtrail (more on Honda's) so I kinda lost interest with it, but now, got hit by the xty bug bad.
Surfing sulit, and searching with price sort filter on, saw lots of xtrails for sale at the P530k-P650k up range. Finally, I stumbled upon a 61tkm Xtrail, priced at P520k. so I made a call, which was the kumare of the owner, and met with them at Tendiensitas, this was nighttime since my schedule was so hectic after 9pm was the only available time for me to check it. Was the first time I transacted with a mom toting along two teenage boys (i dont know if they were props...), one the son of the owner, who's mom did not appear since the kumare claimed she's stressed with the previous buyers looking at their car. Being a small time used car dealer in my early twenties, I inspected every nook and cranny, ...and it looked great for a 2003 car, but had a hunch something was wrong....it said in the online ad casa maintained, but upon asking where the owner manual was and service records, it got lost while transfering houses (always the reason)... Upon test driving it though, I was hooked.
The torque and power thrilled me. Its quite roomy for a compact suv, very comparable to my 99 crv but the xty is much more spirited, and loved the modern boxy dash and center mounted console. It was clean at the engine bay, so I haggled and haggled and we finally ended up closing the deal at P485k. Its really funny that this was actually the first time I sat inside an xtrail, and, it just felt right.
Payment was made and I finally met the owner, short petite lady in her late 30s, had small chit chat and I trusted her by her quick tales of her being an Ateneo Alumni (triggered by oh, do you know... he has your last name, used to be my classmate in...) and was living in Valle 1, so there was trust developed (ah, she's well mannered, etc. etc.). Didn't ask too many questions anymore, just gave her the money, and drove of with her car.
The xtrail ran great, aircon blows cold, damn that libis traffic as I couldn't let her rip, but I had this nagging feeling something was wrong so after a long morning meeting to my biggest client, I took the rest of the day off to do the basic maintenance checks.
Having the car checked at Caltex near White plains and Blue Ridge, I saw the oil dip stick and oh my gosh- the oil was sludge, had the brake pads checked since I heard high pitch grinding, and the rotors we're unevenly worn. Since I looked at the car at night, I did not notice that the a/t dip stick was missing. Upon inspecting the spark plugs, it was already rusty and oil soaked. It was one hot day, and little by little, you get to discover these little things, i said to myself, stupid, youre so stupid jun. I was thinking, holy crap, when was the last time was this car serviced?
Rodel, the house mechanic though cheered me up, saying the car was in great shape, and like he said, alam mo naman sir mga babae, drive lang ng drive (which is true). (remember, if driven by a girl- throughly check it and dont be disarmed by their being tweetums).. Made lots of rookie mistakes like checking the car at night and by God, not noticing a missing a/t dipstick...shet., tanga.
So had everything done, ordered the missing a/t dipstick from Nissan Libis, and purred like a kitten. by this time, I'm quite relaxed already. Rodel gave the car two thumbs up, and driving a few kms after the service, happy driver ulit
I decided to pass by DKC tires to inspect if there are any new mags designs out this year. Was planning to ride stock for at least 3-4 months before purchasing new rims but talking to Lito, he offered me 18" tires for P8k, I said baka naman kalbo na yan. He told his boys to take them out, and they we're lemans, with 70-80% thread and 65% rear, paid the P8k and said to myself, I'll just go back to sulit, autoindutriya or autoeuropa to chance upon second hand rims. But on my way home to Ptuazon, saw these mags beaming with light from the sinking sun and I just had to have it. Wow, amazing what I was able to accomplish... with a much much lighter wallet and forthcoming credit card bills.
I just got home, still staring at my xtrail, very happy I rescued a great car from an apathetic owner. Lesson learned, when buying from a lady, check more thoroughly : )
Ganda ng Xtrail, I think I made the right choice =) |

cheers jun! great story! i had my fair share of woes when i got my x trail as well when i got it late last year.
So, here we go..
We were in search for a new car to replace my '01 Nissan Sentra Exalta STA. the STA was still in the best shape it could be in but my dad insisted to sell the car since it's quite near 100k kms.
So, the search began. first on my list was my friend's '05 Mazda 3 Hatchback. The car was in great condition although it was at 40K+ kms at that time but for sure it was well taken cared off since he worked at Mazda Alabang. Sad thing was, i was 2nd in line. Long story short, i was not able to get it.
Next was an '04 Mitsu Lancer GLXi CVT (Rush sale because the owner was leaving for the US). although lady driven, it was in great condition as well! it had wrap around body kits, 18's schumachers with anout 85% threadlife! only thing i did not like about the car was it's color. (goldish) haha!
anyway, when we finally decided to get the Lancer, we found out that she just sold it the day before we made an offer! (This was a saturday)
okay, come sunday, we had the usually family lunch at my lola's house in Valenzuela. My mom was telling my uncles about the unfortunate incidents with the car hunting when my uncle suddenly asked if we were interested with his '05 Nissan X-trail 200x (color silver). The car was nice and my uncle is very meticulous when it comes to his cars.. so we checked it out. The car was great except for the fog lamps which were grounded and the price he put on the car! haha! he was selling it for 620K!
Oh well, we said we'd think about it.
When we got home, i was seaching online for the Xtrail's price range when i stumbled upon my current ride's ad.
it was an '04 or '05 250x, 31k kms at 580k! so that same night, i went to meet with the seller to check the car! i liked it immediately! although the car needed a little detailing, it was great! i fell in love with it as i test drove it in the small hills of white plains.
So long story short, i got it in like 2 days.
Then, it took about 2 months before i had time to bring it to Nissan UN for the whole tune up, change oil, atf etc.
There i found out that the car's original mileage was 60,000kms! i don't really know how that happened but that is what was showing in their records! Ouch! - TANGA TANGA KO!!! I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE CASA FIRST! Oh well.. Then, when they checked the ATF, it was really old, smelling burnt and nutty! (which was what caused my transmission to jerk that bad from N to D)
Nissan UN took care of all of the car's problems in 1 day! and boy, after driving my Xtrail on the way home, in tip top shape, i dont regret getting it despite the problems i had with the cheated kilometer reading problem!

the mom, typical nanay, di pagnanasahan hehehe
I'm convinced dalin sa Nissan UN with all the great stories here
a car naman even at 100tkm if maintained well will give another 100tkm worth of svc, its more of sawa factor rather than it getting too tired.. i think...
i like it here
today, installed rear fog for 3k- stay away from, kinalimutan ko na shop (napamahal ako, 2.3k lang pala casa too late, went to banawe early am kasi... ) hid hi low at 5.8k rey electrical and finaly a P400 mp3 stero adaptor for my itouch, where else but cdr king =)
here's red, hindi kasing ganda ng xty's here, pero pwede na din (=
thanks peeps for warm reception hope to join one of your fun runs

naku, am going to hk biz trip this wkend, habol ako next eb's
I called the owner of the p45 at P32k, was bent on buying those mags na that day since mura sya, and owner was accomodating, I think was in school when I started harrassing (sorry, I think the car being painted in lasalle area?), sorry, just got offer from dkc which I couldnt refuse and was in katipunan area, just got a bit to lazy driving to Taft, the p45s gun metal would have looked great : (
sir chef, stock ride chief, nag night out lang kami with red (me and buddies) and my friend told me I might need to change rear shocks na, so its a bit tad low now, next nxt wkend cguro or will sneak out office over the week
sir Garick, suing will lead no where, I come from a family of lawyers, like cars, their advise is preventive maintenance better than cure (case/ overhaul, both losing propositions in the end),, you'll just be shelling money out to pay for court appearances, misc filing fees, it wont be worth the amount lost, I advise, just throw shit on his front lawn or something para makabawi ng konti hehehe , and there are other means (which I wont mention) will play in any aggrieved party's mind =) |

Thanks for sharing your stories.
Red is a good color, jun, specially well maintained ones (with detailing). Try to have it fully detailed >> clay, polish, wax, the works, include interior, engine detailing.
Also you might want to remove that x-trail sticker on the sides. But to each his own hehehe
